China Fingerprint Recognition Enterprise Impression Cognition Corporation recently released a self-developed ultra-thin optical fingerprint sensor "UTFIS". This optical fingerprint sensor has become the global 2000ppi fingerprint collector for mobile electronic devices.

Dr. Wang Shuguang, General Manager of Impression Cognition, said that the traditional optical fingerprint recognition is too thick to put into mobile phones due to optical path, and the release of UTFIS chip completely broke this inherent recognition. In the process of research and development, the Impression Cognition Team finally replaced the lens system with MAPIS (Matrix Microporous Array) technology and the traditional material prism with transparent sheet, which made the UTFIS chip have ultra-thin size and solved the problem of miniaturizing the optical fingerprint collector.

Wang Shuguang said another major discovery using MAPIS technology is that UTFIS chips have achieved a breakthrough in ultra-high resolution of 2000 ppi, four times the international standard of 500 ppi. At the same time, the ultra-high image resolution changes the traditional fingerprint collector matching minutiae recognition method, and achieves pore recognition.

In the traditional market, optical fingerprint collectors have absolute advantages, especially in access control, certificates, customs and other areas have been widely used. Semiconductor fingerprint collectors, mainly based on capacitive fingerprint recognition chips, did not gradually form a large-scale market until Apple launched the iPhone 5S. After that, Samsung, HTC, Huawei and other mobile phone manufacturers followed up, and the overall market warmed rapidly.
